Current Research at Cal Poly: My research teams focuses on the organic synthesis of non-native autoinducers. Autoinducers are small organic molecules bacteria use to signal each other when they reach a certain population density; a process called quorum sensing. Our lab tests these non-native autoinducers for their quorum sensing abilities in collaboration with Dr. Fidopiastis, a microbiology professor in Cal Poly's Biology Department who studies the process of quorum sensing in V. fischeri.
